Triple E Framework: Engagement, Enhancement, Extension. (SPEECH) DEBRA JENSEN: Welcome. Welcome to OTAN Triple E framework self-paced Canvas course. And I think you'll find that the framework will assist you in evaluating tech use in your classroom. And as you apply the three E's, you will see improvement in your student outcomes in your class. I surely did. This is week one introduction. Our objectives will include-- Welcome to the Triple E framework. Navigation around the course. Two beginning modules, the first is your journey begins here and the second module, week one introduction. We want to include a snapshot of the Triple E framework. Talk about lesson plan formats include the one that we will be using WIPPEAR and contact information. Let's get started. (DESCRIPTION) Canvas: Triple E Framework. (SPEECH) This is the home page. Welcome to the Triple E framework course hosted by OTAN. OTAN stands for Outreach and Technical Assistance Network. This course will be facilitated by an OTAN special subject matter expert who will support you through the course. We look forward to sharing the content of this valuable framework with you. In each module, there are readings, discussions, and guides to help you complete the requirements. Be sure to utilize the resource section for any extra material you may want to explore. The requirements for completion-- (DESCRIPTION) Certification and Continuing Education Unit Requirements. (SPEECH) Discussions. Participate in the weekly discussions. Lessons. Submit a lesson plan that through the course, you modify to include each of the three E's engagement, enhancement, and extension activities. The final lesson is to submit a second lesson plan that incorporates the engagement, enhancement, and extension activities. We also want you to fill out the evaluations weekly and the final evaluation. That's very appreciated, because then we know how to change things and modify things so that the course will become even better. Now, participants who successfully complete this self-paced course are eligible to receive a certificate, but also to receive continuing education units CEUs through Sacramento State College of Continuing education, one CEU is awarded for every 10 contact hours of participation. Note, students are responsible for registering for the CEUs and submitting the associated administrative fee directly to Sacramento State. Fees are based on total contact hours beginning at $65 for 1 to 15 hours of instruction. Additional information on how to register and submit payment will be provided separately. (DESCRIPTION) Home Page: Navigation. The Triple E Framework home page is shown, with a welcome message in the center. The left menu has a list of links to the various pages of the site. On the right is a To Do list, that says under it, nothing for now. In the upper right corner of the page is a button that says Immersive reader. Arrows point to the left menu, the to do list, and the button. (SPEECH) Now let's take a look at navigation. We're looking at the home page. The arrow on the top left points to the menu links down the left. They include home, which is black because that's the one that is shown on the screen. Announcements, modules, assignments, and grades. You can quickly navigate to the modules or assignments through this menu. On the top right, the arrow points to immersive reader. This is a free built in reading and accessibility tool. It offers read aloud and text settings that can customize the screen for you. The second arrow on the right points to, to do. Below that, it says nothing for now. This is a personalized to do list of assignments for you as you move through the course. (DESCRIPTION) Text: Navigation: Modules and Completion Required. (SPEECH) More on navigation. The first blue arrow points to the quick links there found at the bottom of the home page. They link to the learning modules, class resources, coach or facilitator contact, and help and support. The bent arrow in the middle points to the left side navigation menu and offers a direct link to the modules view. The large blue arrow in the middle right points to complete all items. Now this is important. In this course, you will need to complete all items in a module to be able to access the next module. Many times it is as little as just opening a page. (SPEECH) In the module, welcome, your journey begins here. There are many resources for you. Click through each one to fulfill the complete all items requirement. As you go through the items, let me just highlight a few. You see the page on the certificate and continuing education units, you can receive on completion of the course. Class resources was created as a group of teachers brainstormed what you might want or need as you go through the course. You may want to reread an article on Triple E, but you don't remember where you found it. So you can go back to the resources and there will be a copy of it there. Also, through the course, you will be introduced to the cheat sheet. It's in the rubrics and also the videos, but you won't remember maybe where you found them. So these things will all be under class resources so that you can find them easily. Finally, at the bottom of the list is a link where you can learn more about the Triple E framework and how we use it at OTAN teaching with technology. Going back to the module, you'll find great information about the WIPPEAR lesson plan model. And there's a template for you to be able to download for your lesson plans as you create the two lesson plans for this course. It includes the overview and to do list. This page will preface every module. It gives you the agenda for that module. It includes videos, questions about the videos which you'll answer in the discussions, reading on the Triple E framework, a paper that was printed in proliteracy titled Finally Some Guidance using the Triple E framework to shape technology integration. In the discussions, you'll reflect on the reading and share your insights. We've included what we call fun with failure. These are times when the best laid plans failed and how we learned and moved forward. If you have your own lessons from failure and would like to share them with us, we would love to hear from you. Finally, there is always a summary and a weekly evaluation. (DESCRIPTION) The Triple E Venn Diagram appears, with Engagement Enhancement and Extension in the three circles, and Triple E in the center where they overlap. (SPEECH) The motto of the Triple E framework is learning first, technology second. That comes from the woman who created the framework, Liz Kolb. The three E's in the framework stand for engagement, enhancement, and extension. The idea is that as you include these, the technology used in your classroom will improve the student learning outcomes and create that magic spot that's in the center. Now, how do you accomplish this? It's all in the questions. Each component of the framework has three questions for you to consider as you look at your lesson plans. Here's three examples one from each of the elements. Under engagement-- does the technology tool help students focus on the learning goals, the content, with less distractions? And enhancement-- does the technology create scaffolds to make easier to understand concepts or ideas? Under extension-- does the technology allow students to build skills that they can use in their everyday life? (DESCRIPTION) Inside the engagement circle, it says, time-on-task, co-use, and learning goals. Inside the enhancement circle it says, added value, scaffolds slash supports, and differentiation slash personalization. Inside the extension circle it says, authentic experiences, connecting learning 24/7, and soft skills. (SPEECH) Briefly, a snapshot of the Triple E model looks at time on task, co-use, and learning goals for engagement. Added value, scaffolds, and supports for enhancement. And authentic experiences, connecting learning 24/7, and soft skills for extension. (DESCRIPTION) Text: Course Introduction: The Triple E Framework measures how well a tool or activity engages, enhances, and extends learning. OTAN has applied the Triple E Framework specifically to adult education. This course is designed to walk instructors through a process of designing lesson plans that engage, enhance, and extend learning for students. Week 1, Introduction to the Triple E Framework, Week 2, Triple E Framework Basics, Week 3, Engagement, Week 4, Enhancement, Week 5, Extension, Week 6, Design a new final lesson plan. (SPEECH) The course is presented in six modules. And if you do one a week that it will take six weeks. As you see, we start with the introduction. Week 2 is the basics. Weeks 3 through, 5 introduce each element. We do this by showing you a lesson plan, having you evaluate it for the Triple E element, then we add the element into the lesson plan. Then we turn it over to you. You take one of your lesson plans and add the element. Each of those weeks you add the Triple E element in your lesson plan. Finally, in lesson 6, you take a second lesson plan and add all three Triple E elements. We'd love your permission to add your completed lesson plan into the Teaching with Technology database. The technology database is available for all teachers so that they can then use it in their own classrooms. In the end, you receive a certificate and information on how you receive continuing education units. (DESCRIPTION) Module Pattern. The Week 1 Overview and To Do List page is shown. (SPEECH) We present the course with the goal of patterning the WIPPEAR model which includes-- warm up, introduction, presentation, practice, evaluation, application, and newly they have added reflection realizing that, that is also very important to help your student with learning. Now sometimes it's presentation practice, presentation practice, presentation practice because it's not just one thing that you're working on. You're in your lesson. What we hope you have learned so far, applying the Triple E framework will make your lessons more successful. We hope you'll take what you learned back to your school.
