DEVON: My name is Devon, and I'm a software engineering intern on the Experience and Data Enablement team. My experience interning at Principal has been incredible because of the opportunity and then the flexibility that they've given me. I've gained so much experience by working with web development and then professional development along the way.

As a software engineering intern, one of the projects I've been able to work on is creating a web experience that allows employers to contribute to retirement accounts as their employees pay off their student loans. This has been incredibly fulfilling as a student and being able to make a difference for other students as they go into repayment.

One of my favorite networking opportunities is the intern code jam. The intern code jam is a weeklong coding competition at Principal, and it's a great way to get to know some of the other tech interns and also get to know about other parts of the business. The best piece of advice that I have for aspiring interns is to explore and absorb as much as you can. This is the time to explore what interests you and how you want to start your career.

Principal helps set me up for success by giving me so many opportunities to grow. My incredible leaders and mentors have given me so many opportunities to work on actual code and learn about the surrounding business processes.
