Susan Gaer: Hi. My name is Susan Gaer, and I am very proud to introduce the Triple E framework to you. I was introduced to this framework by Liz Kolb, who had published a book through ISTE, The International Society for Technology Education. The framework of engage, enhance, and extend really resonated with me.

However, all the activities and case studies in the book were for K-12. I really wanted to introduce this framework to adult educators, and so I asked Kristi Reyes if she would help. We wrote a white paper together and started using the framework for our classes.

My dream was to have OTAN sponsor this framework and add to Liz's research for adult education. That is what this course is about. The Triple E framework is created for adult educators, by adult educators.

Kristi Reyes: Hi. My name is Kristi Reyes. My colleague and mentor, Susan Gaer, introduced me to the Triple E framework a few years ago. She had read a book by Liz Kolb that was called Learning First, Technology Second. I was immediately on board with this framework. What I love about it and how it differs from its predecessors, is the focus on learning goals and what the students do with technology as the result of the teacher planning activities that are engaging and have students collaborating, communicating and creating with technology.

As a teacher, technology integration coach, and teacher evaluator, I've always just used my gut instinct or intuition to know when teaching was being well integrated in instruction. But now, with the Triple E framework, I have specific concrete features to point to. Finally, as Liz Kolb puts it, "Learning is first, and technology that fits the task and extends into students' lives outside of class, is second."

Susan Gaer: We have enlisted the help of some very fine educators across the adult education spectrum to create the course. I want to thank Alisa Takeuchi, Blair Roy, Susan Colter, Debbie Jensen and Jennifer Gagliardi We hope you enjoy this course and learn as much as we did while we were creating it. Thank you very much. And OTAN, thank you for your support.
